WordLift adds support for Google in-depth articles on your WordPress site

We’re happy to announce we’ve been releasing WordLift 2.6 to help you mark-up your pages on your WordPress self-hosted website using the schema.org tags required by Google for in-depth articles. Here is the official announcement from the Google Inside Search blog: the goal of in-depth articles is to provide users with a richer experience on the Google search page by highlighting articles that provide a wider overview on the topic being searched. These articles show up when approaching broad topics such as “love”, “happiness” and a lot more including “Italy”, “Egypt”, “blogging” or even famous personalities like “Steve Jobs” (and very few others at this stage). If you’re interested in understanding more how in-depth articles can help you drive traffic to your site you shall read this post on the Redlink’s blog – else simply jumpstart on it by going through the following steps:

  • install and configure the latest version of WordLift,
  • activate the plugin,
  • enable the in-depth mark-up from the WordLift options menu,
  • set the Google+ IDs in the Users page of your WordPress blog (simply add the number you find on your Google+ page after “https://plus.google.com/b/” – this “112007778192372418730” is for example the Google+ ID of the WordLift Google+ profile),
  • check with the Google Structured Data Testing Tool if the proper mark-up has been added to your posts.
