{"id":658,"date":"2015-09-03T11:09:07","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T11:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/?p=658"},"modified":"2015-09-03T11:09:07","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T11:09:07","slug":"mico-testing-one-two-three","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/2015\/09\/03\/mico-testing-one-two-three\/","title":{"rendered":"MICO Testing: One, Two, Three&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>We&#8217;ve finally reached an important milestone in our validation work in the\u00a0MICO\u00a0project&#8230;we can begin testing and integrating our toolset\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0first release of the platform to\u00a0evaluate the initial set of media extractors.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>This blog post is more or less a diary of our first attempts in using MICO in conjunction with our toolset that includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.helixware.tv\">HelixWare &#8211; the Video Hosting Platform<\/a><\/strong> (our online video platform that allows publishers and content providers to\u00a0<em>ingest<\/em>, <em>encode<\/em> and <em>distribute videos\u00a0<\/em>across multiple screens)<\/li>\n<li><strong>WordLift &#8211; the Semantic Editor for WordPress\u00a0<\/strong>(assisting the editors writing a blog post and organising the website&#8217;s contents using semantic fingerprints)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shoof &#8211; a UGC video recording application\u00a0<\/strong>(this is an Android\u00a0native app providing instant video-recording for people living in Cairo)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The workflow\u00a0we&#8217;re planning to implement aims at\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">improving content creation, content management and content delivery phases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/Combined-Deliverable-7.2.1-8.2.1-Use-Cases-First-Prototype.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-661\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/Combined-Deliverable-7.2.1-8.2.1-Use-Cases-First-Prototype1.png\" alt=\"Combined Deliverable 7.2.1 &amp; 8.2.1 Use Cases- First Prototype\" width=\"700\" height=\"321\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The diagram describes\u00a0the various steps involved in the implementation of the\u00a0scenarios\u00a0we will use to run the tests. At this stage the main goal\u00a0is to: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>a) <em>ingest videos in HelixWare<\/em>, <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>b) <em>process these videos with MICO<\/em><\/span> and<\/li>\n<li><span>c) <em>add relevant metadata<\/em> that will be further used by the client applications WordLift and Shoof. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>While we&#8217;re working to see MICO in action in <em>real-world\u00a0environments<\/em>\u00a0the tests we&#8217;ve designed aims at providing\u00a0valuable feedback for the developers of\u00a0each\u00a0specific module in\u00a0the platform.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>These low-level components (called\u00a0Technology Enablers or simply TE) include the extractors to\u00a0analyse and annotate media files as well as modules\u00a0for data\u00a0querying and content recommendation. We&#8217;re planning to evaluate the TEs that are significant for our user stories\u00a0and we have designed the tests around three core objectives:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>output accuracy<\/strong>\u200b\u00ad how accurate, detailed and meaningful each single response is when compared to other available tools\u037e<\/li>\n<li><strong>technical performance<\/strong> \u200b\u00ad how much time each task requires and how scalable the solution is when we increase in volume the amount of contents being analysed\u037e<\/li>\n<li><strong>usability<\/strong> \u200bevaluated both in terms of integration, \u200bmodularity \u200band usefulness. \u200b<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span>As of today being, <em>everything still extremely experimental<\/em>,\u00a0we&#8217;re\u00a0using a\u00a0dedicated MICO platform running in a protected\u00a0and\u00a0centralised cloud\u00a0environment. This machine has been installed directly by the technology partners of the project: this makes it easier for us to test and simpler for them\u00a0to keep on\u00a0developing, hot-fixing and stabilising the platform.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Let&#8217;s start<\/h4>\n<p>By accessing the <strong>MICO Admin UI<\/strong> (this is accessible from the `<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\/mico-configuration` directory), we&#8217;ve been able to select the analysis pipeline. MICO orchestrates different extractors and combines them in pipelines. At this stage the developer shall choose one pipeline at the time.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/MICO-Initial-Screen-01.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-682\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/MICO-Initial-Screen-01.png\" alt=\"MICO-Initial-Screen-01\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Upon startup\u00a0we can see the status of the platform\u00a0by reading the<span>\u00a0command output window; while not standardised this already provides an overview on\u00a0the startup of each\u00a0media extractor in the pipeline.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/MICO-Initial-Screen-02.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-683\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/MICO-Initial-Screen-02.png\" alt=\"MICO-Initial-Screen-02\" width=\"286\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For installing and configuring the MICO platform you can read the end-user documentation: <strong>at this stage I would recommend you to wait until everything becomes more stable<\/strong> (here is a link to <a href=\"https:\/\/bitbucket.org\/mico-project\/extractors-public\/src\/54e5a32e50cb617de5b527551315056214477f2d\/doc\/userdoc\/README.md?at=master\">the MICO end-user documentation<\/a>)<strong>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After starting up the system using the platform&#8217;s REST APIs we&#8217;ve been able to successfully send the first video files and request the processing of it. This is done mainly in three steps:<\/p>\n<h5><b>1.
