Over the last few weeks\u00a0we&#8217;ve seen the <em>Vocabulary<\/em> as the central\u00a0place to manage all <em>named entities<\/em>\u00a0on a website. Moreover we&#8217;ve started to see <em>named entities<\/em> playing an important role in making the site more visibile to both humans and bots\u00a0(mainly search engines at this stage).<\/p>\n<p><span>Here is an overview\u00a0on the numbers of weekly\u00a0<span>organic search visits from Google on this blog (while numbers are still small we&#8217;ve\u00a0a 110% growth).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/01\/google.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1033\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/01\/google.png\" alt=\"google\" width=\"916\" height=\"398\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>To help editors increase the quality of their <em>entity pages<\/em><\/span>, today, we are launching our new <em>Vocabulary<\/em> along with <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/wordlift\/changelog\/\">version 3.3<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/01\/wordlift-vocabolary.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1036\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/01\/wordlift-vocabolary.png\" alt=\"wordlift-vocabolary\" width=\"1179\" height=\"331\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The <em>Vocabulary<\/em><\/span>\u00a0can be used as a directory for entities. Entities can now be filtered using the &#8220;<em>Who<\/em>&#8220;, &#8220;<em>Where<\/em>&#8220;, &#8220;<em>When<\/em>&#8221; and &#8220;<em>What<\/em>&#8221; categories and most importantly entities have a <em><strong>rating<\/strong><\/em> and a <strong><em>traffic light<\/em><\/strong> to quickly see where to start improving.<\/p>\n<p><span>Until now it was hard to have a clear overview (thumbnails have been also introduced); it was also hard to see\u00a0what was missing and..where. The\u00a0principles\u00a0for creating successful\u00a0entity\u00a0pages<em>\u00a0<\/em>can be summarised as follow:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span><em>Every entity should be linked to one or more related posts. <\/em>Every entity has a corresponding web page. This web page acts as a\u00a0<strong>content hub <\/strong>(here is what we have to say about <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/entity\/artificial-intelligence-2\/\">AI<\/a><\/span> on this blog for example)\u00a0&#8211; this means that we shall always have\u00a0articles linked to our entities. This\u00a0is not a strict rule though as we\u00a0might also use\u00a0the\u00a0entity pages to build our website (rather than to organise our blog posts).<\/li>\n<li><span><em>Every entity should have its own description. <\/em>And this description shall express the editor&#8217;s\u00a0own vision on a given topic.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><em>Every entity should link to other entities<\/em><\/span>. When we chose other entities to enrich the description of an entity we create relationships within our knowledge graph and these\u00a0relationships\u00a0are precious and can be used in many different ways (the entity on AI on this blog is connected for instance with the entity\u00a0<a class=\"wl-entity-page-link\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.insideout.io\/en\/entity\/john-mccarthy-computer-scientist\/\">John McCarthy<\/a>\u00a0who was the first to coin the term\u00a0in 1955)<\/li>\n<li>Entities, just like any post in WordPress, can be kept as draft.\u00a0<em>Only\u00a0when we publish them\u00a0they become available in the analysis and we can use them\u00a0to classify our contents<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><em>Images are\u00a0worth thousand words as someone used to say<\/em>. When we add a featured image to an entity we&#8217;re also adding the\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/image\" data-label=\"\" data-comment=\"\">schema-org:image<\/a><\/em>\u00a0attribute to the entity.<\/li>\n<li><em>Every entity<\/em> (unless you&#8217;re creating something completely new)\u00a0<em>should be interlinked with the same entity on at least one other dataset<\/em>. This is called data interlinking and can be done by\u00a0adding a link to the\u00a0equivalent entity using the\u00a0<em>sameAs\u00a0<\/em>attribute (here we have for instance the same\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/lod.openlinksw.com\/describe\/?uri=http:\/\/yago-knowledge.org\/resource\/John_McCarthy_(computer_scientist)\">John McCarthy in the Yago Knowledge Base<\/a>).<\/li>\n<li>Every entity has a type (i.e. Person, Place, Organization, &#8230;) and every type has its own set of properties<em>. <\/em>When<em>\u00a0<\/em>we <em>c<\/em><span data-sheets-value=\"[null,2,&quot;Complete all the properties of the entity to increase its visibility.&quot;]\" data-sheets-userformat=\"[null,null,897,[null,0],null,null,null,null,null,null,0,4,0]\"><em>omplete all the properties of\u00a0an\u00a0entity<\/em><\/span> we\u00a0increase its visibility.<em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Happy blogging!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When we first started WordLift, we envisioned\u00a0a simple way for people to structure their content using\u00a0Semantic Fingerprinting and\u00a0named\u00a0entities.
