The internet has been a blessing to humanity, although the advantages of using the internet are numerous we also can’t ignore the disadvantages.
Mohamed Abd El Rahman Interact’s Software Engineer is highlighting some main misuses of the Internet that are most relevant today:
- Email spamming:
And it’s present in the form of spams, and when we mention spams it’s either one of these
- It’s unwanted
- This is the deciding factor
And one of the major negatives for spams are that it uses up a lot of bandwidth.
- The well of negativity:
The internet is offering you mainly everything that you will ever need in your daily lifestyle, work, education or even your health.
But it also provides you information that will have a negative influence on you, such as violence related videos and documentaries about serial killers.
- Pranksters:
Internet is also full of pranksters, it’s easy to play pranks over the internet and never get caught. And nowadays it has been easier to prank due to the development of technology that has made every illegal thing achievable.
- Ignorance of what you have:
Here in Egypt we have ignorance in technology, everybody has a smartphone and a laptop or a PC. But they only use these devices to make phone calls or messaging friends. For example “a government organization” they have IMac’s and they use Windows on them, this is a great example of the misuse and the ignorance of technology.
- Time wastage:
Time waits for none and we always seem to forget this, we always use the web to complete a certain task and then you end up doing nothing. And then you discover you have wasted like 3 or 4 hours of your day.
- Hacking:
“My Facebook account has been hacked” we have all heard this sentence, but no your Facebook account was not hacked it’s all about that your password wasn’t strong enough or that you gave your password to one of your friends and you forgot to change it.
- Identity theft:
Our information is accessible to the criminals through the malware softwares we all fall victims. Second whatever we put on the social media websites is accessible to lots of people. How can you guarantee that you don’t have any account on your friend list that is a fake one ?
Not only the identity that can be stolen but also the pictures are cropped and can be used in other places such as porn sites or brazen ads.
So be Careful How you use technology…Ignorance in the age of information is a Choice.
